These hand-fabricated earrings are precision engraved on a rose engine lathe with an engraving style known as 'Guilloche'. This pattern is commonly reffered to as the Barleycorn amongst rose engine users, but when its engraved in the rich color of gold with a gemstone set in the middle, the design reminds me of a sunflower.

Rose engine lathes were originally developed in the 16th century, and due to the complexity in both building and operating the machines, the art they create was historically reserved for kings/queens and nobles.
